The Army has recently agreed to move the proposed site of a planned national Army museum from its original Springfield location.
The decision came after months of intense criticism and speculations from officials. The Army plans to locate the National Museum of the U-S Army near the Route 1 corridor.
County officials hope the museum will anchor a commercial revitalization in the area and complement existing tourist attractions -- including George Washington's Mount Vernon estate.
The museum would have been joined by nearly 22-thousand new jobs that are coming to Fort Belvoir by 2011 as part of a national military base realignment and would have brought gridlock to that part of the county.
