Local Officials are not so sure whether the plan of the Federal Officials on expanding the city jail is the best of solution to it's space problem.
The Federal Government has a contract with the Alexandria Detention Center that allows US Marshals to house up to 140 inmates awaiting trial at the facility. But an increase in prosecutions of terrorism, immigration and other federal criminal cases usually forces them to exceed their limit.
City officials plan to further hold meetings with officials from the Marshal's Service to discuss the space problems.
